These are the little guys that we have been struggling with... They don't get much bigger than this, but try as we have, we haven't been able to get rid of them... It hasn't always been this way...
A few weeks ago, our neighbors moved out from the apartment right next to ours. We are assuming that they left a bit of a mess behind, and while the place lay empty... they began to plot... and build their forces...
One evening, Andrew and I were sitting in the Living Room and chatting, and we noticed a tiny little brown thing dash from our door across the floor towards our kitchen. Andrew was on top of it and in no time, it was history. He came back to sit down. Not ten minutes later, the same thing happened! It was like Dejavu! So Andrew took care of the little guy and I got curious. We got out the bug spray and went to the door to investigate. We could see another tiny little guy sitting at the crack between the door and doorpost! So we doused the area with spray and thought that was the end of it. But Andrew occasionally found one hiding out by his desk so we explored further and went outside! That was when we realized where they were coming from, and apparently we hadn't caught all of them because over the next few days I saw some in the kitchen living inside the wood of the counter tops.
Naturally we called the manager and she knew already that there was a problem with these guys and said the outside would be sprayed the next day. But this wasn't enough and a week later we got a long letter on the door saying that we basically have to empty all cupboards, pull all furniture from the walls 2 feet, and clear all surfaces for the Bug people to come and spray and perhaps fumigate the apartment. There was also a $100 fine if we didn't prepare properly, so we were on it!
So ahead of us lay a daunting task! To move and protect all our belongings!
The evening before, we packed up as much as we could, and this morning I had the help of my friend Jenny to pack up the bedroom and food cupboard before they arrived in the afternoon. I couldn't have done it without her!!!
We got home and weren't even sure if they had done anything at all to the apartment because there was no smell or any kind of residue, and a few things that we left on the counter were not even touched, so we were a little concerned and had to follow up, but the manager was sure they had come and done what they needed. Naturally we were not too impressed about the level of inconvenience we had experienced compared to what seemed necessary, but I saw a gem of an opportunity it this whole situation! Right now, our walls are cleared and there would not be too much extra work needed to do some painting on a couple of the walls... So I got right on it and got the permission I needed! Now just to choose the paint color!
