Romans 1:20
"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."

Lunch at PF Changs
Yesterday's lunch with our Bible Study was so great we decided to do lunch together again today after the last Session of the Conference. We had all received gift vouchers to "PF Chang's" which has a very good name for itself. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time there and the food was amazing!

Lunch with SOS at Stonefire
I love Stonefire, and I love SOS Bible Study! So we had the perfect idea, to all have lunch together at the retreat! It was such a fun time of fellowship and good food. On the way there, too, we got to drag race the Curries in their Merc... (while being sanctified and not breaking the speed limit, of course!) Guess who won. ;)
Day Two: Marriage Retreat
Day two of the marriage retreat! We had such a good sleep on the amazing hotel bed, so much so that we got the name of it: "Posturepedic Grand Bed Plush Pillowtop". Wow. And that coupled with blackout curtains, I slept like a baby! But the first session was coming up so we dragged ourselves out of bed and went to find some starbucks coffee and breakfast.
After we picked up an English Muffin from MacDonald's, we drove until we found a cool spot to park and enjoy the magnificent morning by the water.
Then it was back to the conference for mail call! A fun thing they do here in the States is that they get each person to secretly write a love letter to their spouse and mail it into the church which they hand out at some point to facilitate the romance of the weekend ;) So much fun! So Andrew and I got our letters which we kept to read at a later point when we were together!
The sessions were phenomenal! Rick is such a gifted teacher and can speak from much wisdom and experience on the subject of marriage. A big thanks out to Rick and his lovely wife Kim for braving a bunch of people they didn't know!

Day 1 - Marriage retreat
Finally! Andrew and I have been looking forward to this weekend for ages! We have been so blessed by someone who provided a scholarship for us to be able to go to this retreat that is run by the fellowship group we go to at Grace Community Church. After work, Andrew and I drove down together to Newport Beach to the Hyatt which was hosting our conference. The drive was great, as the weather was just clearing up after some rain, everything was green and clean... Some traffic gave me the perfect opportunity to take some pictures along the way!
When we arrived we picked up our welcome package which included a book, some gift cards for local restaurants and the Starbucks, and our ultra-cool nametags ;) We went around exploring the hotel and caught a glimpse of the sunset before we headed off to get dinner.
For dinner we went to the Fashion Center and poked around, before settling on a burger joint in the food court. What a fun place Newport is!
Next, it was back to the hotel for the first session, and Rick Holland was the guest speaker. What a great weekend this is going to be!

2010 Sweetheart Skate
The main date for Valentine's was planned by Andrew and he surprised me by taking me to the Ice Station in Valencia (Actually I managed to get him to tell me where we were going ahead of time!) After church we headed off to the rink and hopped on the ice! It had been a really long time for both of us so we both had our turn to fall, but before long we were happily gliding along!
In fact, after a while I felt I needed to outdo myself and slowly figured out how to skate backwards! I think I'll need to practice more though before I am brave enough to move away from the wall...
Part of the sweetheart package was hot cocoa and cookies, but after our snack Andrew's feet were all blistered up so he took the camera and I spent the last few minutes on the ice. All in all we had a great time and discovered this could be one thing that Andrew and I would love to do more often together!
Just before we left, we took a look at a few of the other rinks and saw some Ice Hockey games going on. Andrew is quite used to this but I think this may be the first time I've seen someone play it! I suppose it can't be surprising though, since I am from sunny South Africa!

The Marriage of Victoria Elaine Ramsden to Andrew Zekveld
Finally!!! The day had come when I get to walk down the aisle to the man of my prayers... After spending a week with Andrew setting up the wedding I was ready to run down to him!!! But with a little self control we were married at 2:30 in the afternoon of the 4th of April 2009, in Kloof, South Africa.

The venue we decided to use was the courtyard between a campus of office blocks that I had fallen in love with when I first started in the field of Architecture, and so it was a natural choice. A friend of mine built a gazebo that bridged the water feature in the centre of the space and from it's beams brown organza curtains blew in the breeze. The theme was "Autumn" and the decorations all had a very modern flavour. Vibrant reds, oranges, yellows and browns were used and the arrangements were made out of branches, lights and beads. Candles and fairy lights were everywhere and lanterns hung from the ceiling. Even the weather was perfect for an outdoor event, (despite it pouring with rain the day before!) And the leaves from the Plein trees had already turned brown which added to the fall feel.

Our friends began to arrive at 2 in the afternoon, while I was getting all touched up for my Big Walk. My Bridesmaids with me, and we got to enjoy a time of prayer before the ceremony was to begin. When I saw my dad at my door, ready to escourt me down the aisle, naturally the full force of the day's events hit me and the tears fell as we walked around the back of the property together to wait for my moment. Veil in place and Andrew waiting at the front, the song began, performed my my dear friends on the music team at my home church Hillcrest Baptist, with a guest Cellist from Andrew's home church. As the second chorus began of 'Arrived' by Enfield, I turned the corner and there he was, as handsome as ever, biggest smile of his life, and all my nerves disappeared.

From then on, it felt like it was just the two of us, our own little world. Standing in front of Clint Archer, my pastor, we made our vows to each other before our Lord, and promised our wholehearted devotion to, and love for one another. With the words "Andrew, seal it", and a sweet kiss, the covenant was made and I was now Mrs Andrew Zekveld!

Straight after the ceremony we had some fun with the photographer, first some family portraits and then some "spinning pictures" with our bridal party.

After this, we got to greet some friends we hadn't seen in a very long time, and the rest who we weren't going to see for just as long... But as strange as it might be, I found it quite easy to bid farewell because I knew I had my best friend with me for life! I knew that was the greatest blessing of marriage; and that, Lord willing, we would be back in the not to distant future, albeit just a visit. The day was very different to how it had been planned thanks to Clint's usual antics (that's a good thing though!) and a lack of time for setting up due to rain the previous day, but perfect none-the-less! There was nothing I would have changed, nothing I would have done differently, and I was just so grateful to everyone for making it so special.

After some great speeches by close friends of ours, and letters from friends afar, we got to have our time of photo's, just the two of us and some human props - our flower girls and ring bearer!

As the evening progressed, Andrew and I were ready to leave, so we waved goodbye to everyone in our toilet papered car, our guests holding sparklers as we drove out the gates to head off on our journey together. It was such a perfect way to end our wedding - just the two of us, driving off into the evening, excited at the prospects of our future life together as a new family unit, husband and wife, best friends forever.
Special thanks goes out to:
My Mom, Dad, and brothers who sacrificed so much for me to get to, and have this amazing day
Andrew's Parents and Family, for travelling a long way to be there
Friends and Family that helped with the setting up and packing away
